I am left to wonder why Mallory believes the government is more capable than she to manage her money.

Below is something I came across that I wrote in response to some (different) crazy conservative some time ago but it should give you an idea of why I think the government should get some of my money.   And yours.   You might detect some sarcasm.

You shouldn’t have to pay for all those government services. Let somebody else. Or shut them down, We don’t need the weather service. We can check the sky in the morning. We don’t need all those air traffic controllers. Those pilots can work out among themselves how to miss each other and still all land safely. Vigilantes can guard the border. Drug companies would surely not produce and sell us worthless or dangerous products. Food processors will not let any food get contaminated or add something that might make us ill or even cause our death. Why license doctors? They know who is competent and will tell us who not to go to, or else our friends will. We can ask around and find out if their patients are always sick or dying. That should work, at least till they leave town and a new guy takes over.
