Budget Cuts

Posted in: Muscatine

Don't you just love all this chatter about cutting spending and what should or should not get cut? A very large point of contention seems to be "entitlements" -Social Security and Medicare and how much and who is going to initiate cuts in those areas. I have heard several newsfolks ask "what are you willing to cut?"

My idea for a large amount of saving for our country would be to halt all this foreign aid to countries who don't like us. I don't think that they are "entitled" to our money - unlike folks who have worked in the USA and paid into Social Security and Medicare. There is a very old saying- charity begins at home. We need to take care of folks in this country who are hurting due to an adverse economy.

Let's call our members of the House and Senate and let them know our thoughts. They work for US so lets give them some working orders. Let's not wait until they do something we don't like.

It's a thought but it don't amount to piffle in the whole budget.    One percent or maybe two or three.   If you don't include all the money being spent cleaning up the Bush wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Israel and Egypt combined get more than all the rest put together.    And most of that is military.   I would favor cutting that.   Maybe they wouldn't intimidate their neighbors so much.   Might actually work towards making peace.

So, if we ONLY save 1% to 3% of the budget I say let's save it. I tire of everyone saying that cuts here or cuts there will ONLY save 10 billion or blah blah blah. Only spending billions here and billions there has added up to astronomical debt. Let's not do  the majority of the spending cuts on the backs of the elderly and the sick. Stop the spending on stupid stuff - like all those freakin' earmarks.
