Our lot in life

Posted in: Muscatine
It's early and I'm going to try to write a serious post. For those that know my writing skills, I apologize in advance.

First in Wisconsin. We are witnessing the dismantling of our middle class. A middle class that was given to America by the introduction of Unions. We owe homage to these union pioneers that towed a line in a time of unforgiving sacrifice.

That said I have lived both sides the union fence and it saddens me greatly to see what unions have become. They negotiate new contracts that leave the workers living below poverty income. This is against what unions were for and any union leader to sign such a deal should be thrown out on his butt. It only helps to kill the middle class.

Now we get to what we see going on in America. Sad. Currently there are 17 states with legislation to restrict collective bargaining by unions. 17 states people.... All at once. Anyone find that odd?

However in all crisis comes a hero. In this case, like many cases before, it will be the American people. In someone else's words, a sleeping giant has been awoken. This giant will be known as the Democratic base. A base that has been silent and ignored way to long. This is not a protest, but a movement set in motion by the greed of who? The most wealthy in America. This will be the beginning battles between the haves and have nots.

What we all need to face is that the working man is under attack. An attack that has been happening for years. But we can only be pushed so far and when trapped we will fight for our lot in life.

Silent and ignored? Were you able to post this without your tongue in your cheek?

I seem to remember someone using the word "shellacking" when describing how un-ignored the Dem base was. In fact, what just happened in Wisconsin was quite something more than a shellacking!

BB....I drove up to Madison yesterday to take care of some family business visit a friend who works at the Workplace Development building which is just a block from the capital.  After parking, I had to walk a block to get there, and on the way, was met by several "protesters".  This patriotic group consisted of 8 or 9 senior citizens who were being shuffled around by some sort of organizer, 5 college students, drunk as hell and probably happy to get out of class, a couple of union organizers who were visibly upset by the lack of union pride exhibited by the drunks, and a fellow in boxing trunks (it was about 40 degrees, no shirt, and a boxing glove on one hand waving a handmade sign at passing traffic.

Very impressive.

"They negotiate new contracts that leave the workers living below poverty income."

I gotta tell ya, TP and Mal need to give me a break.  The things they post are going to make me get admitted if the neighbors hear me laughing this hard.
