i have a problem with an unreasonable attack on the 2nd amendment right to keep or bear arms. if obama goes down this 'unreasonable' road, i will object. i don't believe that 'reasonable' legal requirements or restrictions to keep or bear arms is against the 2nd amendment...it allows for a distinction of those who possess arms illegally. a case can be made that algore lost his home state, tennessee, and the 2000 presidential election because of his unreasonable, anti-2nd amendment position. in 2000, a 2nd amendment question was important enough to make a marginal difference in the election...in 2008, given gw bush's multi-layered record as the worst president of the 20th century, a 2nd amendment issue was way down the list in importance. |

Howdy again!
This newer fear of our historical constitutional strength, recently reinvigorated by the highest court, hasn't been born of anything that Obama has actually said contrarily at this point, Is it? I'll give the man a chance, a chance to show that he will honor his oath first. If he fails to obide by this Oath, then I'll even write the man and tell him myself that he's wrong! and need to watch a recording of his taking that oath. Like most in this country, I absolutely want my second amendment rights protected by the president and congress just as I want ALL our constitutional rights)protected. The good news perhaps, is that unless he gains "That" type of strength in the Supreme Court,(wrong attitude regarding the court) we really cannot expect any of these so-called, "anti-gun" fools to get anything done in these tiny four years ahead. Especially since we have so many other HUGE issues to deal with. It just seems that there are so many other MAJOR problems ahead, that messing with our gun/hunting/self-protection rights, seems to be silly, especially now. Not that they won't, but the mid term election is coming and, well, we/you know what to do. A good idea is to put a fair oposition in the path of othrwise "veto proof" legislation. But honestly, I don't fear losing these rights nor having them significantly smothered at least not soon.
But, well there is always the dark half in the time of a day.
Merry Christmas and God Bless.

"i have a problem with an unreasonable attack on the 2nd amendment right to keep or bear arms". ??? I guess I have to ask, what would be a "reasonable" attack on the 2nd amendment? Or do you really mean that any attack is "unreasonable"? Look, many people like to think that the 2nd amendment is not that important anymore, nor needs to be highly prioritized on our list of concerns. I don't agree at all.
Each and every amendment in the Bill of Rights is important, but the the Second Amendment is the most important because it guarantees that the others will not be taken away. If the right to own firearms is usurped, eliminating all other rights (such as the Freedom of Speech) will be easy. If that happens, what are you going to do? Protest? You certainly can't resist. All you can do is watch it happen. The Second Amendment is our insurance policy against all this. It's been working quite effectively for over 200 years. The tempering atmosphere of an armed populace quite likely has stifled some of our egomaniacs over the years. If gun control advocates still dream of a day when the private ownership of guns and/or ammunition is banned and the police are the only ones who are armed, they should feel free to relocate to the People's Republic of China, where their dream is a reality. |
