This is scarey in so manny ways. He was wearing a helmut and she wasn't What was he thinking? He may have done the right thing giving her his helmut but if he really loved her, he would have made sure she had a helmut when they began the ride. Also riding fast for the thrill is also kind of stupid. This was a tragedy and nothing more.
Obviously your not a biker, otherwise you may have understood this.
This scenario was a tragedy yes, but at the same time it was a reminder to all who read it to wear your helmet, not ride like a fool and protect your passenger.
I can tell you some real life scarey stories, I got a few of them thanks to careless people who are in such a rush that they cant share the road and greenhorn bikers who think they know it all..
How about the girl I t-boned 2 years ago in front of the hotel muscatine, because she was so busy talking on her cell phone that she pulled out in front of me and I piled my bike into the side of her car, guess what, she gets out of her car screaming at me because I hit her car?? Whats up with that? Im laying on the ground torn up and bleeding and this b_tch is over me screaming that Im an idiot and I need to watch where Im going and that she was gonna miss her tanning appointment because of me.. All of this because I was taking a friday afternoon cruise down by the river, hitting deadly speeds in excess of 20mph!!One thing I have learned as a biker is alot of people are idiots. (i hope she reads this)
Heres another for ya, this one got me real bad, messed with my mind for awhile even... This kid comes in to the bike shop I used to work in, he was a real greenhorn when it came to bikes but because all his buddies had superbikes he had to get one too.. So he buys this kawasaki zx-1100. Before this bike leaves the shop we are installing all the fancy go-fast parts for him, just like his buddies got on their bikes.. I talked to this kid for about 4 hours that day while I worked on his bike and I knew he was gonna get hurt, because in his mind he knew it all. It seemed like a million times that day I told that kid to take it easy and wear his helmet because it was his first bike and it was gonna be way to much for him to handle.. So this kid goes out and thinks hes a super biker and gets killed the next day, way to fast into a corner runs off the road and hits a tree, boom crash bang, dead. Insurance company and his family say its my fault he died because I was the last person who worked on the bike.. They didnt take into consideration he had his liscense for one whole day and the fact that his buddies said they came into the corner he crashed on at about 120mph. Yeah that one got to me, not because of the insurance company trying to sue my a$$ off but because no matter what I said to that kid, he already knew it all.. Wasnt long after that I quit my job at the bike shop.. I just could not do it anymore..
So yeah I send this kind of stuff out every year in hopes that bikers will read it and not be stupid when they ride and that non-bikers will read it and maybe pay a little attention to their surroundings when they drive their cars.
Its all aimed towards education and Its all worth it if just one person reads it and thinks, yeah I better wear my helmet, or someone else says, hey I will have to call you back im driving right now...
