  Hey all!

I frequented this site a while back.  I left for a while...I came back.  I have shared my opinion ocassionally.  It makes me sad that there are lots of old posters that are no longer here.  Lots of you are still here... and there are some new ones, which is great!

I log on & what do I see?  Way too many political posts!  IMVHO!  Hey guys, you all have a right to voice your opinion, of course.  However, my take about this website is this...  Muscatine Discussions...  Not National Discussions!  National news is important to us all, to be sure.  It concerns us all.  We can email our congressmen & voice our opinions & do all that stuff...  Ok, I get that.

We can make a difference nationally... but, doggonit... we can make a difference locally!  HERE - IN OUR OWN LITTLE TOWN!  We all have access to our local politicians - and they actually care what we think!  I don't hear enough concern from you guys on a local note.

I LOVE OUR TOWN.  I love the safety that I feel, walking to my car @ night.  I love the fact that I feel that if I go to bed & forget to lock my doors, I'm not FREAKING out...knowing that the chances are that my family will be safe.  I love the fact that when I voice my opinion to our "Muscatine Leaders", or in our local paper that I am heard.

One of my pet peeves is this.  When I watch TV - I see a commercial on a national level of the "poor starving children" in a particular country.  They do without & for the price of a cup of coffee a day, I can feed that poor child!  It pulls @ my heartstrings, of course.  Then I get angry!  Don't ask me for money to feed THAT child... ask me for money to go into that poverty stricken country to give all of the females the Depro-Vera shot every 3 months.  Then teach everyone there what we know about raising crops & teaching others how to make their government run in the most efficient way.  Empower them & stop allowing them to have children that they cannot afford & allow to live.  NOW THAT IS ABSOLUTELY   something I could wrap my mind around!  That is my national concern, for now.  I can argue, get upset about Democrat vs. Republican policy.  I don't.  It's a done deal, guys!  For now, anyway.

What do you all have to contribute on a local level?  Muscatine is a beautiful place to live & to bring our children up.  Let's all unite & keep it that way!  Gangs, grafitti, job losses are something that is slapping us in the face!  What kind of solutions do you have to help?  EMAIL your concerns to our local representatives, or share them here.  Share your national concerns... but share your local concerns as well?

I am so blessed to have my office overlook the Mississippi River.  I work days & nights, so I see the sun rise & the sun set.  My desk overlooks the bridge & the fountains.  I get to see & hear the kids run & scream in the fountain.  I get to see people come to the riverfront to enjoy walking & having fun on the river that a committee worked hard to create!  Kudos to them!

Our town is so WONDERFUL & we are SO LUCKY to live here.  DOGGONE IT!  We can all look @ all the negative things that are happening nationally - & of course locally.  But there are a LOT of POSITIVE things that are happening locally, guys.

This is what Muscatine Discussions shoud be about. Again, IMVHO!  Complain about the bad - but share any good information you have.  That is a GREAT REASON that I - and many others want to come on here & see.

Nedl - you are great @ sharing humor with us - I LOVE TO LAUGH!  My Grandma Irene wisely told me to ignore the negative & to concentrate on the positive in life!  She & her sisters lived that kind of life!  I ABSOLUTELY CHOOSE to emulate her & her sisters' choices in life.  They all laughed, from the bottom of their toes- and we were blessed to be a part of it.  There was no WAY that you could be in the vacinity when they got to laughing -  that you were laughing as well!

Jeff... it's time you started another one of your GREAT STORIES!  We all loved it.

"NO PRESSURE, BUDDY... LMFAO!"  NO PRESSURE - ROTFL!  (I'm guessing that I get to be the villian?).  TAG - YOU'RE IT BUD!  (tlou is on the floor laughing a very evil laugh right now, from the bottom of my toes) !

tlou,

I agree and it sounds like you work in the same building that my daughter in law works in.

Stay with the positive and forget the negative as life is to short.

Gee, I don't know what to say. I hate political crap too and seldom read all the responses, but that seems to be what gets responses. The Muscatine Journal has responses at the bottom of their articles. They are getting all the local action. They don't have a very good response arrangement though, IMO.

I realize summer will cut down on posters but wish more old posters would return.

I've been writing a series of short farm boy stories on other sites. They went over well there, especially with foreign members who wonder what life in the USA was like years ago. Maybe I'll post one here just for the helluvit.
