Tlou,

I applaud your wanting to get some positive discussion going about our community, but I am afraid the economy and ressecion make that hard to do.  Everyone is hurting right now and everyone is looking to just get by.  From the city, to the schools to the teachers, to the shopowners and business owners, it is just a hard time right now.  It is just something we are going to have to try and work through, as individuals and as a community.  And while there may not  be a lot of positive things going on right now, you are right in that if we can keep our attitudes a little more positive we can get through this a little better.  I don't know what the answers are but if we can pass along a joke and a smile every day, and they pass it on, and they pass it on, maybe we can all get through this a little better. (The next post is probably going to be Nedl telling me to blow it out my blowhole Ha ha )  Let's do get some local postive discussions going, but the reality is a lot of people are hurting.  And we can help with that by being positive.  Luv ya kiddo.

No, I won't tell you that. I been waiting for more posters to offer stuff. I'm on so many boards I'm burned out. Start more topics, people.

  Hi Nigel,

I feel bad that you were offended.  You have many valid points to share.  My comments were that there were far too many "national issues" on this board, as opposed to local issues.  How am I, or anyone else reading your posts know that you are "involved locally"?  I GET IT... the national issues have an effect on us & that we should all pay attention.  I also know that NOT ONE OF US can make a difference if we don't take care of our own little town, each other &... "Our own neck of the world".  How can we project a positive image on what our national leaders should do, if we don't show them?

"The fact that your whole rant is based on such flawd assumptions makes it amusingly ignoragle".   Thanks for your opionion, Nigel.  How do you think you can help/change the world if we can't do it locally?  Jeff & nedl... thanks for your kind words.  Nigel... I appreciate your opinions; but you just don't understand me, do you?  That's ok.  I hope that you will hear me when I say that I wasn't attacking you personally.  I just get so frustrated when there are issues facing us here at home!  We HAVE TO FIGHT THE GANGS that are trying to infiltrate our town!  We HAVE to keep our streets safe & keep this wonderful feeling of freedom of letting our children run without the fear that others have in the bigger towns.  We HAVE to FIGHT to keep the feeling that if we forget to lock our doors at night - it's ok.  Is there anything wrong with that hope?

What you - & others continue to post - "national stuff"... is important.  Local issues are so much more important right now.  We can't really make a difference nationally.  We ABSOLUTELY can locally.

I am responding to Jeff & Nedl...

I appreciate both of your responses.  I am sorry that you needed to close your store, Jeff.  This economy truly does suck.  I too, am facing the possibility that my job will end in the near future.  My job relies on funding from many sources.  Many of those sources have dried up.  My husband retired a few years ago; I am the "major wage earner" & carry the insurance in our family.  If I lose my job... It's scary, but it is what it is.  Jeff said,  "If we can keep our attitudes a little more positive we can get through this a little better.  I don't know what the answers are but if we can pass along a joke and a smile every day, and they pass it on, and they pass it on, maybe we can all get through this a little better.   The bottom line is this - we are all neighbors, right?  We are all in this together!  None of us are safe in this crazy economy & the world we live in.  We need each other.  The words that we type can lift another up - or tear them down.  Let's work together to be a community - let's support one another.
