Started my drinking career at about age 5 or 6 with Blackhawk beer. Later drank my share of Grainbelt, Picketts, Falstaff, Drewrys, Schlitz etc.
When I was collecting Japanese military items it seemed natural to me to drink Saporo. Not bad either.
Whooee Ned....a real memory shaker there.
Blackhawk beer....brewed in Davenport? Remember finding an old cone top Blackhawk can buried in the mud while fishing there years ago.
Picketts....Dubuque? Also a beer called Star brewed there.
GrainBelt....can be found again at Hy-Vee. What was once a pretty sour beer has a new recipe after the brand was bought by the Schell brewery in New Ulm, Minn. Very tasty.
Falstaff....used to buy the squatty little bottles for 2.09$ for a 12-pack. Came in a plastic case that you had to return for a deposit.
Drewerys....Drank alot of this cheap stuff when we first moved to the area many years ago. Around 4$ a case for longnecks at that time.
Schlitz...again at Hy-Vee. But I have bad memories. Bad
Saporo....never had the pleasure, but my father in law, who fought in the Pacific in WW2, had mentioned it a time or two.
I have recently returned to the wonderful world of Pabst Blue Ribbon, just because that was the first beer I became seriously acquainted with. Not bad in its present form.
