BB set the rules that anyone who salutes and respects ALL veterans should comment on his site.
I can't quite do that so I will start my own sit rather than violate the rigid rule. I admire all who have served with few exceptions but not all. I especially respect those who were drafted and did their duty even though they may have disagreed with the actions of the military at the time. It was also unfair to them to give their time compared to those who avoided the draft. It was also unfair in that in most cases they took a deep cut in pay compared to their civilian work and lost seniority which could never be made up..
There are some I cannot respect. One of the worst examples is 2nd Lt William Calley of Mi Lai massecre fame. There are many others. Those who shot prisoners rather than take them to holding areas. Those who deliberately targeted civilians, some more for sport than anything else. And the higher officers who plotted grand strategies without thinking through their consequences or considering other plans which would have been less lethal and distructive.
