What is your neighborhood like?  I am asking about this since my wife and I feel very fortunate to have an exceptionally good neighbor living next to us.  This family has been very helpful to us and we have good communication with them.  We have been supportive and helpful to them also.  The family on the other side of us are just the opposite and hopefully they will move away one day.

The rest of the families on our block go on with their lives and we know very little about any of them.  When I was growing up our family seemed to know everyone from several blocks around and if I or my other brothers and sisters were doing something wrong, our parents found out about it before the day ended.  I believe the caring and sharing among neighbors back then have largely disappeared today.

So are you fortunate or unfortunate to live where you do today?

You are correct, Jack.  When we were young, people in the neighborhood were much more connected and genuinely friendly, with very few exceptions.  And everyone got together informally more often.   I remember this one neighbor lady in particular.......

Nobody has time to visit their neighbors anymore.   We're all watching TV, playing with our computers or social networking on facebook and the like.  And there are the ubiquitous cell phones.

I'm fine with my neighbors, left and right, front and back.

So, because YOU  don't have time to visit YOUR neighbors anymore, and YOU spend all of your time on a computer and cell phone, in Mallville that translates into "everybody" is playing on computer and "nobody" has time for neighbors.

This is the kind of logic that we've come to love.  Please do us all a favor and speak only of yourself and your sorry life.
