Muscatine

Police are held at a higher standard than other citizens.  Is that right?  Yes it is right.  But should they be harsher penalties for them?  They put on their pants the same way everyone else does.  So no I don't agree that they should be punished more.  Look at our Fire Chief Dalby a few years ago he got caught with his pants down at the Coralville mall.  What happened to him.  Nothing.  Wasn't even to big news.  Why I must ask.  I will tell you.  You can watch the news and see it all over.  If a cop screws up FRONT PAGE of paper, but a firefighter does the same thing doesn't even make news most of time. 

There is a firefighter that works for Muscatine now that has had 2 OWI'S in the past few years that wasn't in the news and nothing happened to him.  He still has his job.  See the difference. 

Maybe people should think there might be something else with this story.   Not going to get into what that is but there is something else.  Should ART have drove drunk? no he should not have.  He knows better but so does everyone else that goes out and has a couple of beers then gets behind the wheel.  The difference is you just haven't been caught yet.   

Right on!  There isn't a person in town, that drinks 2 drinks in an hour, that couldn't be caught for DUI!  .08 is so low, that IF EVERYONE had to blow in a breathelyzer (sp?), we WOULD have to build another new jail!  The paper said that the man was off duty.  MAYBE the arresting Officer had it in for the guy.  Not EVERYBODY gets along, IF convicted, just think of what this is going to do to this guys career!  Tom.

very good point.  From what I hear there was issues between the arresting officer and the officer arrested.  Why not call in another agency.  Who knows mayby the officer that made the arrest wanted to promote his career and not have to wait to get promoted.  If people want to talk about the good ol boy system the PD is where that is.

I have talked to several current and former officers there and they said there is difinit favortism at that department.  You just have to kiss the right person's a$%. 

From what I hear the administration and the arresting officer has been after the officer arrested for some time now. 

I am not saying what the arrested officer did wasnt wrong I am just saying i think it could have been handled a different way

I don't know the daily ins and outs of the PD or who's butt needs the kissing, but how could this have been handled differently? It sounds as though you may be suggesting something that I'd find almost worse then the crime.
