Remove God/common morals and right to life/death becomes an inanimate measure.
What you're saying is "Atheists have no morals, since they don't believe in God" - What a sad world it is when people can seriously say that humans need to fear eternal damnation in order to do good.
N0loh: 1. Actually, I am no longer a practicing church goer, but do believe in a supreme being that at least created something that is evolving into our universe. I believe this because it is the simplest explaination for what I see around me. Believing that all this sprung from "nothing" by chance is asking me to "stretch" it!
2. In addition, from what I can remember, most (not all) christian religions concentrate on "reward" rather than punishement for our behavior in this life. So, your premise that people are acting "nice" out of fear is not exactly correct.
3. In starting this thread, Nedl kind promulgated the theory of "karma". "You reap what you sow". Do atheists believe in "karma"? And I agree with BB that you never really explained to us your reason for doing "good" rather than "evil". We are asking about the root cause of your decision, not the "for my fellow man" reason.
4. Sorry to add another one, but, if you don't believe in a creator, then you must also not believe in what the founding fathers of this country stated in: "We are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights"...... If we aren't endowed by our creator with these rights, where did they come from???? Or maybe you don't believe we have these inalienable rights?
