If it "stops" with stoplight cameras, fine. If it gets out of control-

In Citrus county Florida a traffic light violation is $ 231.00 and I have no idea if that is state or county law.

My experiences driving in south Florida have revealed that those folks do not know the meaning of a traffic light. If you are waiting at a traffic light for the light to turn green, do NOT take off as soon as it turns green as some idiot will run into you. Fortunately did not happen to me but saw it happen enough that I risked the honking of the drivers behind me and waited for a clear intersection. The funny part of it all was the idiots who were violating the red light were angry with the poor sucker they ran into. Would get out of the car and yell at them and shake fists - no less! I think they are in WAY too big of a hurry! I understand that the powers  keep adding more and more of the cameras. Maybe since this doesn't affect driving record the idiots risk it.

HiSmile

It's always a curious thing to some, and I agree that there are those who will cheat at an intersection from time to time. California stop? yellow light racers and so on. But to me the only real advantage might be for accident fault or fact finding. Otherwise it would depend upon the frequencies of violations at corresponding intersections. And, should that be so easily determined, then what is the real purpose anyway? Is our community that large and so out of control? But as I have read here and agree, once that door is open, so much can scoot in and oops, it's too late. Once up in Rochester my father got a ticket mailed to him when my younger sister sped through a misjudged yellow. So at least up north the owner got the ticket and must sort it out in court. I will have to ask him if there was a driving records issue or not, that I don't recall. I do know that citizen complaints were lodged because some communities were told that these intersection cameras were going to offset property tax hikes. But guess what. Maintenance, vandolism, and disputes caused an option tax push to help pay for them, even their initial instalation had to be covered. Taxes and then some. Of course we musn't forget those conserned manufacturers and installers who are right there lobying in some communities to consider them. But like many have said, we do a good job of staying at or below the limit and stop when the light or sign indicates. It might also be interesting to see what your police dept. officers have to say about perhaps cutting back officers? It seems that this has begun in about every state and not that I'm a "Big Brother Is Watching" wory wart, the times are changing.
