Hey MalSmile

I'm no local or state gov. scholar, but I sure can attest to the stink of that place. Has it really been over half a century that this company has been poisoning the air with no regulation enforcement? I know every time we go to Iowa City for treatment especially in the mornings there is this long trail of what looks like a long thin cloud stretching for what seems like a hundred miles. It finally ends at Muscatine. When the wind is right, you can smell that dense greasy smell all the way out by Park Ave. If there is anything any reps can do::: I for one wish they would get to it.

This civility issue falls into the tit-for-tat category. It's oh so easy to take a comment:::in any context and let it snap our twigs. I have been there, and once we get a chance to step back and examine ourselves, well we just might get a better sense of what others see. You too Big B. It's obvious that Mallory sees an insult you don't. I got some experience there too. But my nature and a few taps on the shoulder from some caring others here cleared that up for me. But we do get our feathers ruffled at times when an issue or a political fave::: get some of our ire. I know very little of this Reichert guy, but most of this battle seems to be the same old-same old, repubs vs dems. Nazi? I think that's actually worse than "booger eater" but my point wasn't what he's doing, can or cannot do. It was what he did do. But I saw the light and repented. I have actually been working on a history quest of what our presidents have done that most consider good works for our nation. Yes sir, even Bush. Pollution control wasn't among his strengths, but there were a few.

I think those committee issues tend to give reps a bit more of a resume if anything. But should there come some meaningful legislation to fizzle down that pollution? then I'd be happy to support it. Even of the cost of Booze and my Corn Flakes go up a little.

Thumper's mom.

It goes beyond Park Ave.

You shouldn't have to pay more for corn flakes.   The pollutors should pay to clean it up and they don't make corn flakes.

Hey MalSmile

Agreed. That's one of the flaws the corporate machine wants us to fall for:::when we are led to fear that::: making energy more costly to the consumer and to clean up our environment is the price we have to pay. Instead of letting those who do the polluting pay for it, they like to pass that cost to "us." I think any meaningful legislation should include provisional statements that any expense to do the right thing, should be a profits issue.

I realize they don't crank out the flakes, but what about the base products? I'm told by hubby now, that it's actually so many products based on corn that the list is huge. But you are spot on. I just hate the smell of that place and hear that so many asthma cases might be directly due to this sort of pollution in this area. I read too that this area is smack in the middle of the "carcinogen belt"?

I must point out, once again, something that libs and democrats can't seem to keep in mind.  Corporations do not "pay" for anything, including cleaning up pollution or even taxes.  Their customers, and eventually all consumers, do.   All costs are plugged in to the product price in order to maintain return on investment.  If they cannot maintain return on investment for a significant period of time they either raise the price, go out of business, or move the business.
