Let me start by saying I have been a dues paying member for 50 years, 31 active and 19 retired soon to be 20.

Where I worked if a supervisor was not smart enough to fire a lazy employee, he was replaced and fired. Sure it may take a little time but there is not a employee that can not be fired through progressive discipline.

All I know about GPC is I have a brother in law that retired from there and had a fishing buddy retired that was a general supervisor.

They both said when the old man left things went to hell in a hurry because the greed factor took over. Ask any supervisor that is working there now if he was not better off 4 years ago, because they really got cut.

gta1 - I know of a guy that worked for us.  He was 1/2 hr. late every day (I'm not joking).  After several months, he finally got fired!  He's been a temp at GPC ever since, making great money AND "show up" bonuses every week.  He was worthless when he worked for us.  Can't believe that he's still thereI thought about applying.  Shackman

Both my parents were union members. When we learned that UAW members - right now - are sitting for eight hours in a hall playing solitare and doing crosswords because the union made that kind of a deal - my opinion of 'union' changed. Trust me, I am not saying that  the deal at GPC is even REMOTELY fair or close! I have family members who are avidly pro-union so I don't say much, but everyone needs to get their heads into TODAY. We have rampant unemployment - businesses closing or severely cutting back - we need to think long-term about our jobs and the company we work for and the company needs to do the same about the workers. Every company should pay a decent salary for good job performance and every employee needs to give the very best work they can for that wage. It used to work that way - it can work again.
