If the deportation figures are correct, I am impressed.  My only concern is keeping them out.  Seems to be a revolving door at play here because I don't really notice a difference.  If true, there must be a continuous flow coming across the border daily. Same faces, different door?

I think it all boils down to two words cheap labor.

Remember back in the 50s when they all came to Muscatine to pick tomatoes?

I agree that cheap labor is part of the problem.  The person who suggested  huge fines for those who hire illegals is right.  That would solve part of the problem.

The migrants who came to pick tomatoes are a different story.  These people traveled with the crops to eek out a living doing back-breaking labor that no one else would do.  They are hard working people who didn't/don't  abuse our welfare system or take advantage of our free health care paid for by the taxpayer.

The problem today are the illegals who bring huge families, have baby after baby and you and I pay for it.  Make no mistake.  Some come to work but with a large family and only one or two working, they need assistance. How many times have you seen a young Spanish girl with several small children?  I may sound harsh, but it is time to put an end to catering to the people who choose to break our laws.

Now I step down from my soapbox.

Yeah, I remember. The cheapest thing was when mechanical pickers were made available. Mechanical pickers didn't bring their crime with them, nor leave behind unpaid bills and mounds of trash and junk vehicles.
