Arizona immagration law

Posted in: Muscatine

Jeff and Nigel...you both have made good posts here and made great points.

Jeff...spelinq and gremmar....  ;^)....No need to address it with you. And I only addressed it with two others who were being mean, rude, and started doing that in an overbearing fashion to another poster here. You can see it has mostly stopped now, but wowie...did they ever complain when someone did it to them!!

If we had a similar law here, I'm still not sure our locals would spend resources enforcing it prima-facia. When forced to; yes. But, they seem to have the attitude that Immigration does that; not us cops. Wouldn't we see more of those arrests reported in the Journal if they were really happening here?

The only ones negitively affected are the ones living outside of the law, say undocumented people who can not produce ID.  They are breaking the law so how are their civil rights being violated?

Consider the people who are arrested, booked, charged and then charges are dropped for whatever reason.   No proof of a crime?   Found the real criminal?   Mistaken identity?   Over active police?   Whatever.   Or those who are tried and found not guilty.

They all were living within the law and yet affected.   It can happen to anyone.

Don't make it too easy for the law to grab you.

That's just too skewed, mall. If they are living within the law, none of the actions you try to reference would be happening to them. You are missing a point in all this. When confronted, and someone cannot reasonably offer legal ID, that is THEIR problem. If they have an ID, but not on them,  and can have it provided even later somehow; then no charges would be filed for that violation. When the law says you have to have an ID, you have to have one. Or, have you Libs quit believing in rule of law now suddenly?

I seem to remember you libs arguing that being forced by new law to have health ins was no big deal, because we are all forced to follow other laws, etc, etc. The examples cited were such things as seat belt , helmut, and liability ins laws (where applicable). I remember those defensive comments well. You libs can't have it both ways.

You've missed my point.   I'm not taking a position for or against the Arizona law.   I just get tired of  people saying things like "if you live within the law you have nothing to worry about".

That totally ignores all the people who are arrested, charged, tried and judged not guilty.   They suffer some, even though they lived within the law.   Loss of time.   Loss of reputation.   Loss of money among other things.

That's why I say don't make it too easy for the police to detain you.
