Arizona immagration law

Posted in: Muscatine

To hear the opponants of this bill, one would think that AZ will suddenly have a gigantic police force that will approach every Hispanic-looking person with the intent of a 'gotcha'. Since I am not a resident or member of law enforcemnt, I can not say with certainty that as a rule when persons who have some violation of some kind of law - say speeding, drunk driving, assault - whatever - they can be checked for their 'green cards'. Does that sound like a huge profiling case? But, like I said since I don't live there  I can't say that is how it will work, but let me assure you IF I lived there I would want a whole lot more done to stop the gawd-awful crime that has affected not only AZ and TX but the whole economy. I'm with the others on here that say Muscatine probably has illegals. I say to AZ -hooray for you - go for it!

Consider the people who are arrested, booked, charged and then charges are dropped for whatever reason.   No proof of a crime?   Found the real criminal?   Mistaken identity?   Over active police?   Whatever.   Or those who are tried and found not guilty.

They all were living within the law and yet affected.   It can happen to anyone.

Don't make it too easy for the law to grab you.

Mallory,

I concede these things do happen.  But in looking at the whole picture I think the police get it right much more often than they make a mistake.  Of all the arrests made nationwide these kinds of instances are very rare.  That is why our system is set up with safeguards as evidence, and witnesses and proof, as well as an appellate system.  Yes they do happen and are a tragedy when they do, but I contend they are a very small per centage.

Truman Capote once said, "The problem with living outside the law is that you now have no protection from the law."  When illegals cross our borders they are immediately faced with a decision.  Do I want to live outside of the law and not get documented therefore not having the protection of the law or do I get documented and live inside the law.  Most, I venture, chose to live undocumented and outside of the law.  That was a decision they made.  So why should they be afforded rights when they choose to live outside the law?  It was their choice.

"That totally ignores all the people who are arrested, charged, tried and judged not guilty. "

You still are lost with this mallory....no one that is legal gets arrested, charged, tried, and judged not guilty; because..... if they have an ID that proves their citizenship....none of that can happen. It seems you are really against law enforcement in a blanket assessment. Too easy....you said nothing of nobama making it illegal to not have health insurance in his health bill. Are you going to address that fact? How do you offer equality in arguments here? We are waiting!
